I sent Joeline to Guatemala City a few days ahead to find us a house. Jody flew down to meet her and they went househunting. Found a great four bedroom house. Plenty of room for company. Joeline will use one room for a studio but that still leaves two free bedrooms, plus the maid's quarters (so really three free).
After they found the right house, they took the next day off to go to Antigua, which is just forty five minutes away - look it up on the internet.
Anyway, on the way back a supposedly dormant volcano erupted. Showered Guatemala City with ash - which in this case is a fine black sand. This caused a hurricane and torrential rains, which caused hugh landslides. Then a sinkhole, which you probably saw on CNN.
Quite a welcome.
I got worried about them so tried to get out of Bolivia to "rescue" them. I had to take a ten hour bus ride, then hitchhike, then a plane to San Salvador, then hired a driver to take me to GC - no busses or taxis or planes were going to GC as airports were shut down due to ash, and roads were closed due to landslides.
The driver and I made it by going over and around the landslides. Quite a trip.
Our plane tickets back to the states were for Friday, but AA is not flying until Tuesday. A friend of Jody's from Pinetop managed to get us on the first AA flight out.
We should be in the states from June 9 til July 4. I will get pictures on soon.
